Brenda VanLengen, an Emmy Award-winning sports broadcaster, has been a leading voice in women’s college basketball for nearly three decades. Since 1996, she has provided insightful analysis for ESPN, covering major conferences like the SEC, Big 12, and Big Ten, and transitioned to play-by-play in 2010. Her passion for the sport’s history led her to create and executive produce the documentary series “If Not For Them,” which traces the origins of college women’s sports through the lens of basketball.

A respected expert in the field, VanLengen operated the ART telestrator for the NCAA Women’s Final Four and WNBA Finals for over a decade. She has also lent her voice to numerous national championships in Division II and NAIA basketball and NCAA softball, volleyball, and soccer events.

Beyond the broadcast booth, VanLengen’s career spans coaching at the University of Nebraska, leading the national non-profit PE4life, and serving as executive director for the 1998 NCAA Women’s Final Four. Her achievements have earned her prestigious accolades, including the Mel Greenberg National Media Award and Distinguished Alumnae recognition from the University of Nebraska-Kearney. She also contributed to Emmy-winning productions on Title IX and the WEPAC All-Star Charity basketball game. VanLengen resides in Olathe, Kansas, with her wife, Capri Hales.

The Nebraska Greats Foundation’s 2023 Celebrity Sports Night was a huge success! The event, which was held at the Relevant Center in Elkhorn, Nebraska, featured former Husker basketball coach Dana Altman and NBA star Kyle Korver. The evening was filled with fun, food, and fundraising for the Nebraska Greats Foundation. The foundation provides financial assistance to former college athletes in Nebraska who are facing medical and financial hardship.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and attendees, we were able to make a real difference in the lives of former college athletes in Nebraska. We are grateful for your support!
