Men's Basketball Wins at Corn Palace, First Since 2005
MITCHELL, S.D. — Doane outscored Dakota Wesleyan 14–7 in overtime to pull out a 73–66 road win on Saturday, rallying after a tight second half and closing with key plays on both ends in the extra period. The win at the Corn Palace was the first for Doane since 2005.
The Tigers trailed 30–29 at halftime but forced a 59–59 tie at the end of regulation, then controlled the overtime session behind interior scoring and late-game composure.
Jack Wilson led Doane with 20 points and nine rebounds in 43 minutes, shooting 7 of 12 from the field and 5 of 6 at the free-throw line while adding a 3-pointer and a pair of key rebounds in the closing stretch. Justus Gardiner added 18 points and four rebounds, going 6 of 11 from the floor with two 3-pointers and a 4-for-8 night at the stripe.
Jonan Claussen chipped in 16 points and six rebounds for Doane, hitting two 3-pointers and finishing 6 of 8 at the line, and Trevon Beckman supplied 11 points and five boards with a 2-for-2 effort at the stripe. Casen Chaney added seven rebounds, three assists and six points while logging 40 minutes.
Doane's defense tightened late after both teams traded runs through the second half. The Tigers limited Dakota Wesleyan's offense in overtime and converted enough at the line to create separation after the 59–59 regulation deadlock.
Tyson Stevenson paced Dakota Wesleyan with 18 points, five rebounds and three assists, knocking down five 3-pointers while playing 41 minutes. Steele Morgan finished with 10 points and six rebounds, and Anthony Riggans added nine points and nine boards. Easton Neuendorf and Oliver Vincent each scored eight for the hosts.
Doane trailed by one at the break after falling behind by 10 earlier in the first half. They matched Dakota Wesleyan across the second period to force overtime. In the extra session, the Tigers' frontcourt presence and rebounding edge helped preserve the lead as they closed out the conference win.
Returning to the court on Saturday, January 10, Doane will play host to Waldorf at 3:45 p.m.
