(Peru, Neb.)- The Peru State Men's Basketball Team is excited to announce the hiring of Dom Wright as Assistant Coach.

Wright is set to make his return to Peru State as an assistant coach, following a three-season stint as the head assistant at Mount Mercy University. There, he not only refined his coaching techniques but also deepened his understanding of the intricacies of college athletics management. Now, he's poised to infuse Coach Roman Gentry's program at Peru State with his energy, strategic insight, and competitive drive. Wright is committed to fostering a championship culture by challenging athletes to strive for greatness and supporting his athletes, guiding them to excel both on and off the court.

Head Coach Roman Gentry expressed his enthusiasm about Wright's return: "I'm thrilled to have Dom rejoin our Bobcat family. He's a hard worker and relates well with players. I look forward to working with him on a daily basis this upcoming year."

Hailing from Colorado Springs, Colorado, Wright's journey in basketball includes playing at North Iowa Area Community College and then continuing his collegiate playing career at Western Colorado, where he earned a business administration degree. Fuelled by his passion for the game, Wright took on the role of lead men's basketball assistant and resident hall coordinator at Southwestern Community College, where he spearheaded recruitment efforts, provided expert coaching, monitored academic progress, and fostered community engagement. In 2021, SWCC achieved the distinction of Region XI runner-up in a fiercely competitive conference. During his tenure, the team doubled its wins and achieved remarkable victories over five nationally-ranked teams. Wright's keen eye for talent has led to the recruitment and coaching of eight all-conference student-athletes, with three of his former players now showcasing their skills professionally in Australia, Argentina, and Mexico.

"I am genuinely excited about the opportunity to work alongside Coach Gentry and Coach Austin," said Wright. "Both bring a wealth of experience and a distinguished background in basketball, which I believe will be invaluable in maintaining our competitive edge and strategic sharpness throughout the coming year. I anticipate that their insights and expertise will not only challenge us to elevate our performance but also foster an environment of continuous learning and improvement for the entire team."
