UNK Breaks Ground on New Sand Volleyball Courts
The University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) officially began construction on three new sand volleyball courts, a project driven by student initiative and collaboration. Located northwest of the College of Education, the courts are expected to open by late summer and will support intramurals, student organizations, Loper Athletics, and the broader Kearney community.
Student Government President Sam Schroeder emphasized the effort as a testament to student leadership and teamwork. The $200,000 project, led by UNK Facilities, is jointly funded by Student Government, Campus Recreation, UNK Athletics, and the Chancellor’s Office. Additional features like lighting and amenities are also being considered.
Interim Chancellor Charlie Bicak highlighted the project as a reflection of UNK’s mission: supporting student-led efforts that build tradition and foster campus wellness and connection.
