Budge Porter remains a respected and enduring figure in the history of University of Nebraska-Lincoln football, remembered for his toughness, dedication, and commitment to the Cornhuskers program. Porter played during a formative era of Nebraska football, earning recognition as a determined and hard-nosed competitor who embodied the values of teamwork and perseverance. Known for his physical style of play and unwavering work ethic, Porter contributed significantly to the program during his time on the field, helping set standards that future generations of Husker athletes would follow.
In 1976, Porter suffered a serious injury that significantly affected his playing career.
Despite this setback, he faced the challenge with determination and resilience, qualities
that would continue to define him well beyond his years on the field.
Porter went on to build a successful work career, applying the same work ethic, integrity and perseverance that marked his time as a student-athlete. He was known as a dependable professional and a man who took pride in providing for his family and
contributing to his community. Porter is a devoted family man whose values, strength and character carry him through life.

A Lifeline for Nebraska’s Former Athletes
The Nebraska Greats Foundation exists to provide assistance to current and former letter-winning athletes from all of Nebraska’s colleges and universities who face serious medical or financial hardships. Through grants, the NGF helps these individuals cover costs for medical treatments, rehabilitation, medical equipment, medication and travel to and from physician appointments and other essential needs that insurance and personal resources may not fully cover.
Budge's story is a perfect example of why the Nebraska Greats Foundation exists. These athletes gave their all for their schools and communities, and we’re honored to give back when they need us most. Every contribution helps us continue to provide this vital support to more Nebraska sports heroes.
